Sofia Airport, 12.08.2010

The number of handled passengers at Sofia Airport in July this year was 327,100. This means a 12% increase compared to the same month of 2009. The passenger traffic was not only fully restored after the recession, but even exceeded the July numbers of the 2008 record year by 10%.   At the height of the summer season, such an increase was registered in both international scheduled and charter flights, and domestic flights, with a rise of 24% against July 2009. The number of passengers carried by Bulgaria Air between the capital city and the seaside airports went up by nearly 4,400 passengers.   In July 2010, Sofia Airport’s Terminal 2 facilitated 230,225 inbound and outbound passengers. This represents a 10% increase compared to the number registered last year. The number of inbound and outbound passenger at Terminal 1 also went up, by 16%.   The number of flights is also recovering, at a moderate rate though. The aircraft movements in July 2010 amounted to 4,353 – nearly as many as in July 2008. The increase registered against the same period in 2009 is 5%.   While at a slower rate than the rate of development of passenger and aircraft traffic, cargo operations are also improving. The mail and cargo handled in July reached 1,293 tonnes, which is a 13% increase year-on-year. A 25% increase in cargo is attributable to 14% growth in cargo flights. The annual increase in cargo and mail carried by scheduled flights is about 6%.
